Mundial Update

Mundial update...lol...so Chile lost against Spain the motherland of Chile 2-1, we decided to watch the game at a restaurant in Valparaiso close to Universida Catholica were we meet up with Kristi's boyfriend and some of his classmates.

We also lost against Brazil but seriously did we even have a chance against them...lol...lets be realistic here. This game we decided to watch at home since Angela had to leave shortly after the game and seriously we knew in our hearts we didn't have a chance. (No pictures of this sad event)

So now that Chile is out and the USA too I am rooting for my dad's favorite team Argentina! Go Messi!

Ciao,
Jessica

But we are still supportive!

See his face, very sad!

Chile's only GOL celebration.

Getting ready to see the game on the big screen.

Everyone excited because the game was tied.

Disappointed because we were losing.

Quilpue, Chile

Dos semanas en Quilpue out in the country was the best experience so far for three simple reasons one- surrounded by so much wisdom, two-breathing fresh nature air, and three-eating and drinking organic food! I had a great time with the Ramsay-Raab family they took me in as their daughter but I like to say I am their granddaughter. For two weeks I was given the opportunity to learn about the wine industry and practice speaking Chilean Spanish, politics, engineering and other helpful lingo. Mr. Raab has quite a story his family originated in France and has many siblings in various fields two of which are engineers. His wife Margie, the sweetest little lady I have met, stays home and knits but loves company and talking about her life too her family originated in Scotland. Margie's sister Jessie lives right around the corner with her husband Gaston and they too were very friendly, they are more technologically savi so they have a computer and I was able to use it once in a while to skype which to them is the best invention ever. Maria a family friend lives close to them as well and was very kind.

Since it is winter here I was not able to see the process of wine but did get to see the process of organic light beer. First thing was actually cooking the beer which consisted of corn and other things that took an entire day. (did not take pictures that day I was working hard trust me) After the cooking we had to let the beer fermenting for a week. You might be asking what did you do in the mean time...good question I helped disinfect all the bottles and then cleaned them along with putting labels on the dark beer which was already done. That surely did not take all week so I was able to explore the vineyards along with the city of Quilpue which was exciting, watched several soccer games and also took a surprising trip to the hospital but for nothing major and it was not for me. Once the beer was ready we had to pump it into the bodega to get ready to bottle it up. The process of bottling the beer was fast moving we did it in no time. Jose was in charge of the beer flow and making sure I had bottles, I was in charged of filling the bottles with the beer and then setting them for Ana who sealed them and gave them to Patricio the agronomo who would check them to see if they were okay dipped them in water and place it in a bin.

I will return to Quilpue before departing to America to say my ciao's and breath the fresh air again!

Ciao,

Jessica

PS I have not become an alcoholic I hardly even drink, a glass of wine a day is good for you and organic beer is better too, that is what my grandpa here in Chile said...

I love this quote the translation is not as funny " If you came to Chile and didn't drink wine then why the hell did you come"

The view of Quilpue from the top of the hills where I was living.

Can you see Lider it is their version of Walmart.

The Andes, this was a beautiful warm day.

The snow on top of the Andes...skiing anyone?

One last picture of the ciudad...fresh air!

The process of the beer begins...disinfecting the bottles.

I was getting the work done...the bodega was an ice chest but I could handle it.

My favorite part, filling up the bottles with cerveza!

Ana and Jose trying to get one last bottle.

Apurate Jessi!...that is what they could yell at me when bottles where not being filled.

Waiting on the last bottle...

Sealing the bottle with a cap, it required a lot of leg power...I was too short!

Some of the finished bottles...

Waiting for the Metro to head home!

Heading home on the Metro...

Chi-chi-le-le CHILE

Chile is playing in the World cup and well I am a fan of soccer thanks to my DAD (love you daddy HAPPY FATHER"S DAY to you and all the fathers!) I love the USA but I am in Chile so I want them to win. Below you will see why Chile is the place to be for the World CUP!

The first game victory against Honduras 1-0. I saw it on TV but I was in the country so I did not get to see what you will see below.

Every Household has their flags ready before the second game against Swisa.

After the victory everyone outside was cheering!

On their balconies....

On the streets...

Blocking the streets....

Even the students after class oh wait I think school was canceled!

On the plaza at Vina, waving the flag!

Even the colectivos (taxis)...

Can you see the SPIRIT in this country because I can!

So we have won two games but here in Chile its seems like we have won the CUP, I am ready for the next game getting my red jersey to really look like a chilena!

La Serena, Chile

The Serena Crew, Greg-Emily-Angela-Amanda-me-Shawn(we found him at the hostel he is from Berkley)-Mike.
These fine young people dance and sing to get money-they were entertaining!

I finally went horseback riding on the beach, let me tell you it was great!

Only Greg and Amanda joined me on this journey...

The beach here was pretty much the same even though the surfers claim the waves are better, the water still cold!

The light house, we could not go...very antique.

The huge fish at the Japanese Garden.

Me on the Bridge at the Japanese Garden.

Me again, so I almost jumped to get on the rock but I was told not to break any bones....

Chorritos at the market plaza.

Souvenirs any one....I love the colors around the market.

You know I am looking for them all around and I found them!!!!!!!

We saw them as we were driving to La Serena and then back again on our way to Vina, I will get in contact with the people behind these lovely creatures....

La Serena was nice it was warmer did not have to wear my jacket during the day. We did not get to see the penguins because it had rained and we did not see the stars either because it was cloudy. Maybe next time....we did enjoy the horseback riding and walking around town!

Santiago, Chile

Virgen Concepcion from far at night as we were leaving Santiago.

My mommy will appreciate these pictures!

I walked all of Santiago and then rode up the San Cristobal Mountain to get a picture of the Virgen for my mommy!

Half of the crew, Michael-Miguel and Rachel-Raquel, can you see Santiago behind us.

As we rode up the San Cristobal mountain, kinda sketchy.

The crew minus me, Rachel, Mike, Greg and little Emily (finally someone shorter than me!)

The Cathedral-Metropolitana de Santiago.

Part of Santiago on top of the Santa Lucia Mountain.

La Moneda-their White House, it was surrounded by their military.

I tried capturing a picture of La Torre Entel as we were running to cross the street but was not very successful, it is their telecommunications tower very pretty.

Santiago was unique very smoggy. People move fast similar to New York but it is a nice place to visit to see the Chilean culture. I will visit Santiago again and will post more pictures later. We did so much walking in one day but it was worth it. We basically saw the entire city we did miss certain things due to damage from the earthquake and them because it got dark.

Jessica
